This is a true science fiction classic. Incredibly imaginative and original for being written over a hundred years ago. In fact, this was one of the first books to feature an alien invasion plot.
That being said, this is a Victorian novel. The language and grammar are 100% Victorian. The rhetoric is excessively formal and stiff. This is normal and expected in most Victorian novels; however, it was so weird when paired with the chaos and general idea of an alien invasion. It made the whole thing feel humorous and satirical. Quite odd.
Overall, this was a good classic. I'm glad that I finally got a chance to read it.
