[Review] The Christmas Doll by Elvira Woodruff

This is a great rendition of Victorian literature. I wasn't aware this was a modern book until after I finished reading it. A compelling and heartfelt story that is centered around two orphaned siblings. Tender and touching. A testament to family and a celebration of the Christmas spirit.

[Review] Edgar Allan Poe's 12 Days of Christmas (Once Upon a Christmas Dreary) by Holly Michele

I was a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe when I was a kid, so I was looking forward to this one. I will say that I enjoyed the accompanying art. However, I wasn't much of a fan of the writing. The rhyming and meter felt strained. And the tone was a bit dull and morbid. There were a number of references to classic pieces of literature; and, while these might appeal to literary scholars, they don't contribute much to the story and seem very out of place in a book recommended for 5-18 year old readers.

[Review] In the Tunnel by Julie Lee

Wow. This book tells the story of a boy's life leading up to and during the Korean War. Impactful and moving. Lee absolutely captures the bleakness of life as a refugee of war. Harrowing and emotional with a tear-jerker ending.
