This is a well-regarded piece of classic literature. The premise is solid, there is a lot of metaphor, and the writing is richly laden with details. And despite it being written in the 60s, there are plenty of diverse characters, which I found delightful.
But, as much as I wanted to love this book, it regrettably wasn't a good fit for me. It was just too slow—too much fluff, not enough substance. I was never able to engage with the story and finally resorted to skimming the last third of the book, because I was ready to be done.
