[Review] The Christmas Pig by J.K. Rowling

A great Christmas book with interesting worldbuilding. It's a nod to the spirit of Christmas, but it's also a reminder of society's rampant consumerism.

I will say that this book was a rough start for me. I went into it hoping for something fun and magical for Christmas. It does eventually get there, but the start felt too much like adult contemporary fiction—regular people living their boring, broken lives as best they can. And of course there's always some self-absorbed a'hole that thinks the world revolves around them. In this case, the assholery is explained away by teenage angst—not a justifiable excuse for being toxic, in my opinion. So yeah, the start was a bit slow and frustrating.

However, once the MC enters the Land of the Lost, this becomes an uplifting and emotional Christmas read. I actually found myself on the verge of tears at one point.
