I was a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe when I was a kid, so I was looking forward to this one. I will say that I enjoyed the accompanying art. However, I wasn't much of a fan of the writing. The rhyming and meter felt strained. And the tone was a bit dull and morbid. There were a number of references to classic pieces of literature; and, while these might appeal to literary scholars, they don't contribute much to the story and seem very out of place in a book recommended for 5-18 year old readers.
