I loved the use of modern and diverse characters, and the premise for this book was a good one. But...
No matter how much I wanted to love this book, I just couldn't get into the writing. It felt clunky and scattered. Unpolished. There was too much emphasis on superfluous things, and scenes of importance were underdeveloped—essentially everything came across as equally important—flat. And the characters, whose diversity drew me to this book, felt awkward and abrasive, basic and one-dimensional.
In the end, I didn't feel invested in the characters or the story. I just kept wishing that the writing would be better and the book would be over.
