[Review] Gender Queer: A Memoir by Maia Kobabe

Published on 21 April 2023 at 12:34

Wowza! This is, hands down, my favorite graphic novel, to date. It was also the most banned book of 2022.

There are so many important topics addressed in this book. Kobabe talks unabashedly about all things gender. How refreshing to read someone who is so open and frank about their identity and the whole complicated journey of self-discovery.

This absolutely should be required reading in school. Not only does it inform students about different gender identities, but it gives those who are questioning their own identity a symbol of acceptance and hope.

Moving, educational, vulnerable, and so very important in cultivating understanding and acceptance.
