Great world-building. I loved all the West African folklore and magic. I felt completely immersed in the culture. And, in addition to the fantasy aspects, this book also contains a lot of good commentary on stereotypes and discrimination, making this a relevant and modern read.
I will say that the pacing in this book felt slower than in Akata Witch. At times it felt too slow for me, which left my mind wandering a bit.

Favorite Quote: Superstitions are like stereotypes in a lot of ways. Not only are they based on fear and ignorance, they are also blended with fact.
